How to use this result
Start with the decision, then inspect the assumptions.
Canada does not have one national land transfer tax. Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and New Brunswick levy provincial charges; Toronto adds a municipal tax; Quebec municipalities levy transfer duties; other provinces may use registration fees or municipal rates.
How the calculation works
A bracket rule engine applies marginal rates to each portion of the value. The selected rule exposes its identifier, effective date, official source, and last review date. Rebates and special purchaser taxes are not automatically assumed.
For the full notation, rate conversion, rounding approach, and limitations, see the calculation methodology.
Worked Canadian example
Put the estimate in context
At CA$650,000, Ontario provincial land transfer tax is calculated through four brackets. Selecting Toronto adds the municipal schedule, while Alberta returns an estimated land-title registration fee rather than a traditional transfer tax.
Before relying on it
Common mistakes
- 01Applying the top marginal rate to the full purchase price.
- 02Omitting Toronto’s municipal tax.
- 03Assuming Alberta or Saskatchewan has zero registration cost because there is no traditional tax.
- 04Claiming a first-time-buyer rebate without confirming eligibility.
